The Iranian leadership is at the crossroad in the sense that it has to take different important decisions regarding the internal opposition and the external pressure mainly due to its nuclear programme. Iran certainly is an unpredictable country and many players are indeed involved, both in the domestic and international arena. However, perhaps due to their secular background, political scientists are underestimating the revolutionary role of the clergy and are not focusing their attention on the withdrawal of subsidies, a risky move recently decided by the government headed by president Ahmadinejad.
